Modern consciousness pioneers with roots in west-eastern traditions: Sri Aurobindo - C.G. Jung
Abstract
The biographies and personalities of two modern consciousness researchers from the first half of the 20th century, who did not know each other personally, and their concepts of an holistic individual development path are compared, referring to principles of classical yoga. The Swiss psychiatrist C.G. Jung described his model of individuation. The philosopher Sri Aurobindo, born in Bengal, left an Integral Synthesis of Yoga. In both cases, it is a life-long process according to the principle “Become who you are” based on intensive self-experience, in which creativity plays a special role. Ultimately, the ego is to be left to the guidance of an inner governing authority. This transformation is understood as part of the ongoing evolution of our species. The elaborated parallels can be interpreted as a reference to a corresponding matrix for self-development in the human genome.
