Dragon Dreaming: A participatory method for developing community-based sustainable projects

Abstract

Since the 1990 Rio Earth Summit, there has been a number of important international conferences to address emergent global problems, all of which have failured to deliverauthentic outcomes. Despite the presence of more than 190 heads of state at the Rio Earth Summit, in 2010 we are further from Susatinable Development than we were in 1990. On the other hand more and more people ask themselves, how they can influnce this process. No longer waiting, till others will care, there exsist more and more impulses in the community. How to collect this power for sustainable success, personal growth and community development, the Dragon Dreaming Method trys to point on.

Author Biography

John Croft

is an international consultant and trainer and was co-founder of the Gaia Foundation Australia, which is based on the principles of personal growth, community building and service to the earth. The Gaia Foundation has network groups in Australia, Turkey, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Italy and the West Coast of the USA. John has been involved in community development and education throughout Australia, in English-speaking parts of Africa, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, the USA, London, Paris and Geneva. For the last three years he has taught the Dragon Dreaming method in the North (Finland) and South (Ghana) and has also taught in England and even in Turkey. He has also worked as a teacher at a number of universities and as a consultant on community development and environmental action projects for governments and NGOs (Non Governemental Organisations). His approach integrates personal growth with empowerment and community building.
