Psychosynthesis of nations
A path with many hurdles and obstacles
Abstract
Psychosynthesis is more than a school of psychotherapy. It was conceived by its founder, Roberto Assagioli (1888–1974), as a convergence of applied psychology, pedagogy and spirituality with a vision of harmony, universal love, inner and outer peace and an overarching cosmic will. Like many great souls, he was not a narrow-minded master of his field (psychiatry and psychotherapy), but also a great mystic and philosopher who had an excellent sense of what was true, beautiful and good. Simply put, he was a wise man who was far ahead of his time in a timeless way. Even though psychosynthesis was primarily conceived for the healing process of individuals, it can also be applied to benefit the transformation processes of entire systems. To mark the upcoming 50th anniversary of his death, this article presents current examples to show how far we still are from Assagioli’s vision of a “psychosynthesis of nations”.
