Staying young in times of double parenthood - in dialogue with growing children and aging parents

Abstract

Focusing on three quotations of famous philosophers (Marcus Aurelius, André Gorz and Martin Buber) the article discusses the lifelong changing relations between adults, their children and their parents in the specific biographic context of the sandwich generation. Three different challenges are proposed: awareness, without critical examination for the different conditions in which today’s younger gene ration are growing up; questioning one’s own beliefs to find a new integral identity between the generations; starting a new beginning mindset by initiating a deep dialogue with our children and through this, accepting and connecting the general rainbow between life and death.
