A modern concept of the soul as a condition for sustainable psychology, sociology and culture

Abstract
The origins of psychology and psychotherapy, as well as philosophy, are unthinkable without the concept of the soul. Apart from everyday language or esoteric uses of this term, it gradually disappeared from scientific discourses. Following the concepts of C.G Jung and R.H. Lotze, this paper involves a transmodern redefinition of the term. It shows that some gaps in modern science, and some problems of modern culture, cannot be solved without a new transdisciplinary concept of the soul. Decisive human qualities of consciousness – as for example longing, love, intensity and freedom – can only be understood and unfolded as potentialities of the soul. The analysis clearly reveals, that there is a need for further research.
